Finding Job/Practicum in Denmark

Finding Job in Denmark

As Filipino or foreigner in Denmark, one of the struggles we are going to go through is finding a job. Here are some of the tips I would like to share to all who are also experiencing this.

1st is to learn Danish. There are more Danish companies than international companies here in Denmark (obviously) so finish your Danish language and practice it.

2nd Have your qualifications from the Philippines evaluated by http://fivu.dk/en/  After you get the evaluation see what options you have, like which job or course you are suited to.

3rd If you decide to take a course or pursue a degree here, check all the details how long it will take, what are the prerequisites before you could get in. Choose 5 courses you have in mind and apply in all of it and see which course or school you will be admitted.

4th When you apply for practicum (elevplads/voksenplads) check your CV thoroughly.
I know that in the Philippines, we have a different way of applying or writing our Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  1. Compare your CV to others who are also applying for same position as yours’
  2. You could search online for example search for SoSu-medhjælper CV, if you are SoSu-medhjælper
  3. If you are a Sosu-medhjælper your CV should also show that you are a Sosu-medhjælper for example you do voluntary works that would help you enhance or learn more as a Sosu-medhjælper, etc.
  4. Make it simple not over detailed just write the important and recent information about you.

5th Application letter - search for sample ansøgning or application letter with the same position you are applying to, in the internet. It is not so much of a practice for us to write an application letter, we just walk-in and then apply personally to the company. You also have to use time writing an application letter. It should not be the same or just make one application letter and send it to all the companies. Each companies have their own demands/needs from an employee or practicant. Read the announcement and write a response related to that, now your response would serve as your application letter to that specific company.

6th During interview – Clear your thoughts (worries/nervousness/problems/etc.). Tænk på dansk! (if it’s a Danish company) or think in English if it’s an (international company). I did set myself to read Danish newspaper or something in danish before my interview so my mindset is in danish.
  1. Be on time or earlier would be much better
  2. Dress presentable but not overkill (depends on position you are applying for)
  3. Read a little bit about the company (just in case they ask you)
  4. Just be yourself (they want to know who you are)

Good luck and hope you can use these pointers ;)

How to turn someone into a referral source?

http://business-networking.co.uk/how-to-turn-a-contact-into-a-referral-gold-mine/

We have people who recommend us very seldom and some who recommend us not at all and if we are lucky we have a few people who recommend us a lot.
So what makes them different? It could be attitude it could be motivation but more likely it will be information that you have not given them and how often do you contact them.
To get someone to refer you more often you need to train them to become a Referral Partner. That is someone who goes about their normal working day looking for business for you without having to think about it.
Just imagine a group of people who did that for you every day free of charge and loved doing it for you. What would your business look like? A bit better perhaps or even fantastic.
Firstly you must teach them what type of business is really good for you. Not just OK but really good so that they can find quality opportunities for you. This means they will bring you quality referrals all the time.
Secondly you must teach them how to find introducers for you. These are people who sell complimentary products to the clients that you want. A good introducer could end up being a quality Referral Partner.
Thirdly you need to contact them more often. If you already have someone who refers a lot of business to you, how often do you contact them? It should be at least weekly or maybe even daily. I know people who pass £100K of business to each other. How often do you think they talk to each other?
Lastly, thank them, thank them and thank them again. Take them out to lunch; buy them a pint, flowers, whatever it takes make a fuss of them. If you keep doing that they will keep referring you.
Give it a try. The worst thing that could happen is you get no more business than you are getting now.
